free casting magic from microlite20

I kinda like this free-casting magic system from microlite20. I’m thinking it could work well as a stand-in for C&S’s basic magic, alongside a hefty spell book that covers more eccentric and individual effects that are not easily modeled on a damage/range/resistance model. And it reminds me of Ken Hite’s observation that magic generally runs on similar rules to electricity. Now all I need is to cook up a similarly procedural system for summoning rituals, worked off something like John Dee’s Holy Table, so you can call up exactly the supernatural entity you need to find your keys and set fire to your neighbor’s goldfish without needing to break into their tower.

In other musings, how do basilisks hunt for food? Presumably they have to very deliberately not look at their prey.
